Is all the artwork on the website for sale?
Most of the artwork on the site is still available for sale although some of it will have already sold. The “Hot out of the Kiln” page displays the most recent work I’ve made and most of it is available. I try to update the website as work sells. If in doubt – ask me. I do take orders if there is something that you want which has already sold.
If I order an artwork that has already sold will you
be able to make another one exactly the same?
Even if I tried to make 2 pieces to be identical I couldn’t - though they may be close. Since they are hand glazed there will be variations in the colour-mixing and combinations. The tiles, bowls and platters are hand-made from scratch and so they may not be 100% round, or flat or perfect. Each piece is individually hand-crafted and hand-painted, complete with some slight imperfections and variations, which is part of the appeal and is what makes them so unique.
Can I have my
purchased artwork delivered to me?
Yes. I do courier artwork to clients. Because my
sculptures, bowls, platters and tiles are ceramic / pottery they are fragile
and so they need to be well packed. The good news is that I haven’t had a
piece damaged in transit yet. There is an additional cost for packaging and
courier fees.
Otherwise, make an appointment to come and pick it up.
Can I get you to personally deliver the artwork
to me?
No, sorry. While I enjoy the opportunity to meet with
you and discuss the work my time is very limited, and there
are not enough hours in the day for me to be both artist and courier.
Please
do not ask me to hand deliver your work. Either visit my studio and pick
your piece up
or else pay a little extra and I will package it up and arrange for a courier
to deliver it to you.
Can I commission you to make an artwork for me?
Sure – feel free to talk to me about it and I’ll see what I can do. I have made tiles and platters of a number of houses for clients. I don’t necessarily accept all commissions because some houses just don’t translate well onto a tile, or it may not be a subject I do. Also, any piece made captures the essence of the subject rather than being an accurate reproduction. It is not a photograph! Sometimes I have to leave out details because there is just too much information to fit in, or the colours don’t work well, but I will look at what you want and we can go from there.
How long will it take for me to receive my order after I
place it?
If it is already made and I am sending it within New Zealand then you should have it within the week. Sending work overseas will obviously take longer.
If I have to make it first then you should allow at least 3 months. This is because the raw pieces have to be slowly dried for around 6 weeks so that they don’t break in the kiln. When I have sufficient pieces to fill my kiln then they have their first firing, then they are hand-glazed and fired again in the kiln.
If you want something which requires making it pays for you to order well in advance of when you want it.
Yes – all my tiles, bowls and platters are of real cottages and villas in the Wellington region, but there has been some artistic licence in how they are presented. The New Zealand native birds, (Tui, Fantail, Wood Pigeon, etc) can all be found on my property on the Kapiti Coast. There is, unfortunately, no Tuatara in my garden.
Are the tiles only available as a hanging piece?
No. You can request a non-hanging tile. These can sit on a plate stand or be glued on a wall as a feature tile.
Please note:- the tiles may not be 100% flat as they are hand-made – not factory made.
I like the image on one of your tiles but I would prefer
it on a platter or bowl instead.
If I do not already have one I can make that for you.
What hours is your studio open for visitors?
I am working from home most days so I can usually arrange to be here at a time that suits you. Please contact me first to arrange a time.
Do you have any outlets overseas?
No, I sell from home as well as a handful of Wellington galleries and exhibitions. For more details see my Galleries and Exhibitions page or contact me directly.
